Winter Wonderland in India !

So our new year started with a trip to Dalhouise, Himachal Pradesh ! Such a postcard perfect place.

Dalhousie is this cute little town with extremely warm people that you will instantly fall in love with it. The only way to reach the town is by road. The closest airport is Pathankot, Punjab which is 75kms away from Dalhousie but is connected to New Delhi only. From Pathankot it is a beautiful drive of about 2-3 hours, depending on the weather conditions.
The season time to visit Dalhousie is Mar to May in the summer months when the climate is pleasant and below 30 degree Celsius.

However, we decided to visit Dalhousie during the winter season to experience the snowfall.
The town does see heavy snowfall and temperatures can dip to as low as -10 degree Celsius during the night.

We were staying at the Grand View Hotel. And must I say that the stay was extraordinary ! The hotel staff was very warm and courteous. Definitely the best hospitality and service that I have experienced till date. An absolute recommendation.

There is not really a lot that you can do in Dalhousie, except visit to the local market at Gandhi Chowk. However, the place is so picturesque that you would just want to go there and spend a few days relaxing in the quaint environment.

We did plan on going ahead to Khajjiar which is a 22kms drive from Dalhousie for skiing and sledging, however due to heavy snowfall the roads were blocked and there was no way we could make it to the same. If you are planning your trip around March then please do not miss out on Khajjiar.
